Dance Star Studio not only offers dance classes but also other distinctive classes which can enhance and improve dance technique and performance work. Such classes are as follows:
The studio teaches The Federal Association of Teachers of Dancing (F.A.T.D.) in classical ballet, jazz and tap from pre-primary to advanced levels. The studio also offers examinations in professional performance levels and teaching accreditation.
Examinations offer a challenge to the students and provide a measure of their individual progress. Students can choose to undertake the examinations but it is not essential. A separate class is needed for those students who are undertaking examinations. When students have completed and passed their examinations they will be awarded with a report, certificate and badge.
Each year the studio holds a concert at the Pilbeam Theatre and all students are given the opportunity to perform. The concert is definitely one of the highlights of the year. Preparation for the concert occurs over two terms and the concert gives students the chance to showcase their dancing talents and family and friends. Dances are especially choreographed by the teaching staff and guest teachers. Costumes are also needed for each dance at the concert. The cost of costumes is the responsibility of the parents.
In 2009, students performed their concert 'Starstruck' to a sell-out audience. All students from tiny tots to seniors and adult dancers performed at the concert.
This year we will celebrate our 10th anniversary concert. The date for this years concert will be advised.
Dance Star Studio participates in the Rockhampton Eisteddfod which is held in May each year. The studio enters a number of groups, which is not compulsory, but gives the students a goal to work towards and to be part of a team. Students may wish to participate in solo, duo or trio items at the Rockhampton Eisteddfod and also the Rockhampton Dance Festival (which is held in September). For these students a private class is needed to work on the necessary skills which will improve their performance work.
Congratulations to students who competed in the 2010 Eisteddfod - you all did well. A speical congratulations to Kirby Richardson who won the encouragement award for the tiny tots - selected by the audjudicator.
OTHER PERFORMANCES
Dance Star Studio holds a Mothers Day Concert each year. The concert is preparation for many students before they start the Eisteddfod. It also allows many of the younger students to perform on the ‘big stage’ for the first time. The studio also performs at fetes, fundraising events and community concerts during the year. Parents will be notified in advance of the dates and times. The school has also been involved with Stockland's Funland characters 'Jack and Jess'
