NEWSLETTER 1 FEBRUARY 2010

“Welcome to all students and parents for the dance year of 2010!Hope you all have an exciting and rewarding year with Dance Star Studio”.

Once again, the year will be a busy year with a number of events on the dancing calendar.  As well as classes during the year, students can be involved in Eisteddfod, exam and concert work and performing at community functions.   This year will be the studios’ 10th year of dancing so it will be a special year for us.  The teaching staff of Belinda Clark, Tara Fitzgerald and myself are looking forward to another challenging and fun year of dance.

DANCING STUDIO

As you would all be aware we are having a move very soon.  Our new studio will be located at 179 East Street on the 1st and 2nd floors.  The 1st floor will be the waiting room, private dance studio, toilets and kitchen area and on the 2nd floor will be the main dancing studio.  The studio will be air-conditioned and also have dancing barres and mirrors.   We are just waiting for work to be done to the studio and then we will move into our new premises.  I will keep you updated on when the move will take place.

As a temporary measure, we will be using Tobruk House and ANZAC House.  All entry to the studio will be via Tobruk House.  The waiting area for parents and students will be the area between Tobruk House and ANZAC House (upstairs).

DANCE CLASSES

In the dance class, your child will learn the correct technique of dance as well as have fun with dance.  At certain times during the year parents will be invited to view class.  Parents are requested to wait outside in the waiting room areas while dancing classes are on – this is so the children do not get distracted.  If you have any concerns with your child’s dancing classes, please come and see me.

FEES FOR DANCE CLASSES

Please come and see me if you are unsure about costs for dance classes.

Fees can be paid weekly but they must be put in an envelope with students’ name, class, date of class/s and amount on front.  The envelope is then to go in the fees box located at the front of the dancing hall.  Also, if you miss a class you must still pay for the class.  Term accounts will be distributed around the third week of the term.  If you have any problems with the payment of fees, please see me.

DANCE DRESS

It is important that dance dress is adhered to – “if you look like a dancer you will feel like a dancer”.  The uniform for our school is on the notice board and also on the website.

SECOND HAND SHOP

The second hand shop will be run by Vicki Fitzgerald and assisted by Cheryl Walton.  The second hand shop is open once a month – there will be a notice on the board when the next shop is open.  If you have any second hand items, please enclose the item and envelope in a plastic bag and also on the envelope write your name, description of item and price.   Please remember that the second hand shop runs on a “cash only” basis.

EISTEDDFOD

Nominations close on Friday 19 February so you need to have your form and money into me by Wednesday 17 February.  Forms will be given out by me.  Private classes will be starting in the next couple of weeks – you will be advised of a time for your class.  There are only limited placed available for private classes.  Classes will mainly be held on the weekend.  You MUST practice your dance at home as it only wastes the teachers and students time if this isn’t done.

Eisteddfod group classes will commence on Saturday 27 February – times will be given out and put on the notice board.  Some groups will practice their groups in their set class times.  You will be given a note if you are to be involved in groups.

The Eisteddfod for dancing starts on Sunday 9 May.

PARENTS MEETING

There will be a parents meeting held on Saturday 20 February at 11.15am at the hall for all parents of the school.  The meeting will inform you to what is going on during the year and also allows you to meet parents from the school.  The meeting will also discuss fundraising ventures for the year.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

ADULT TAP AND JAZZ CLASSES

There are adult classes for tap and jazz available.  These classes are a social and fun way to enjoy dance.  Classes are for all ages and levels.  The class is on a Wednesday night 6.15 – 7.00pm.  The cost of this class is $7.00.

RULES OF THE DANCE SCHOOL

Please make sure that the following rules are adhered to.

INFORMATION

Newsletters and notes are regularly given out to students to keep you informed of what is going on in the school.  Information is also on the notice board in the waiting room and also on the website.  If you would like a newsletter e-mailed to you or you will view the newsletter on-line, please let me know.  If you are already on my e-mail list for newsletters you do not have to return this slip. If you would like to see me it is best to see me either at the start of the afternoon or at the end of the dancing session at night.  This is so a class does not get interrupted.  Alternatively you can call me (at the times below) and arrange to meet at a certain time.  I am also able to contact you via e-mail as I am on the computer most days.

REFRESHMENTS IN FRIDGE (TOBRUK HOUSE)

There are drinks and refreshments in the fridge at Tobruk House.  ‘Ready to Rock’ are happy for us to buy these items.  It is an honesty system and money is to go on the box on the counter.  The prices for the items are on the board (above the counter).

NEWSLETTER 2 MARCH 2010

I hope everyone has settled into their term of dancing and is enjoying their lessons.  It has been great to meet all the new students and families of the school.

NEW DANCE HALL

Works on the new dance hall at 179 East Street is progressing well.  The owners are putting in a new floor at the studio so it is taking a little bit longer than expected.  I will let you know the commencement date at the new studio as soon as I know.  We will hold an open day before we commence there so everyone can familiarise themselves with the studio.

EASTER RAFFLE

Our first fundraiser of the year will be an Easter Raffle.  A book of tickets will be given to each family (these will be handed out in a few weeks time).     Each family is requested to bring in $2.00 for the raffle prizes so Easter prizes can be purchased.  If all donations could be received by Saturday 27 March that would be wonderful.   The raffle will be drawn on Tuesday 30 March at 5.00pm.  Winners will be notified by phone.

EISTEDDFOD

Group practises will commence this week.  Please remember when you have committed to being in a group, you will have to turn up to practises. There is only 10 weeks until the Eisteddfod – so it isn’t long!     There is only very limited time at the theatre for practises.  Our practise dates are Thursday 22 April and Wednesday 28 April.  Times will be given out closer to the time.    Please remember students doing solos, duos and trios it is very important that you practise your dances at home.

ADULT TAP AND JAZZ CLASSES

There are adult classes for tap and jazz available. The class is on a Wednesday night 6.15 – 7.00pm.  The cost of this class is $7.00.  We would love to have more members in our group – so if you are interested (or know someone who may be interested) come and try the class.  The class is a fun and social class and you do get a workout as well!

PARENTS NIGHT OUT

On Friday 19 March we will be having a parents night out.  We will be having dinner at Malaysia Hut (Wandal Road) at 7.00pm.  If you would like to come please place your name on the list of the board or let me know by Tuesday 16 March.  The food is delicious at Malaysia Hut and I am sure we will have a fun night!

SECOND HAND SHOP

The second hand shop will be open on Saturday 6 March at 10.00am in the waiting room area.   If you have any items you wish to sell, please bring them into me this week.

DANCE DRESS

It has been wonderful to see nearly the whole school wearing the dance uniform.  Just make sure that hair is pulled back neatly or a headband is around your head to secure hair so it does not get into your child’s face when they are dancing.

If you have any queries at all, please do not hesitate to contact me.

LEARNING OF DANCE IS FUN AND PERFORMING IS FABULOUS!!
